Inspecting and replacing air filter for 2026 Polaris Ranger 500.
Congratulations on getting the most out of your Polaris Ranger 500! At RideNow Parts, we’re here to share tips to keep your vehicle performing at its best for many more adventures.
According to the Polaris Owner’s Manual, air filters should be replaced every 100 hours of use, 1,000 miles, or once per year, whichever comes first.
Follow these steps to inspect or replace the air filter on your RANGER 500:
-
Park the vehicle on a level surface, shift into PARK, and remove the key from the ignition.
-
Raise the rear cargo box to reach the air box.
-
Clear any dirt or debris from around the air box area.
-
Release the six retaining clips and gently remove the air box cover.
-
Check the seal between the cover and the air box to make sure it’s intact and sealing properly.
-
Examine the air filter and air box for any signs of dirt, dust, oil, or moisture.
-
If the filter needs replacement, loosen the worm gear clamp using a flathead screwdriver or 6mm socket.
-
Slide the filter backward to detach it from the intake boot, then lift it straight up and out.
-
-
With the filter removed, wipe the inside of the air box and intake boot clean using a dry, lint-free cloth.
-
Important: Any debris left inside the intake boot can cause serious engine damage. Always ensure the area is completely clean before reinstallation.
-
-
Reinstall the clean filter or replace it with a new one (Part Number 7082037).
-
Do not attempt to wash or reuse the old filter.
-
-
Make sure the filter is fully seated on the intake boot with no visible gaps. Tighten the worm gear clamp with a 6mm socket and extension to 26 in-lbs (3 Nm).
-
Reattach the air box cover, ensuring both hinges are properly aligned, then secure all six clips.
-
Lower the cargo bed and confirm it is locked securely in place.
